William Green
Co-Founder
Dr. William Green is a Co-Founder of Thiozen, the Hoyt C. Hottel Professor of Chemical Engineering at MIT, and the Director of the MIT Energy Initiative. He is a world leader in computer-aided chemical kinetic modeling and has extensive experience in fuels, catalysis, and emissions. Dr. Green’s work has contributed to developing Thiozen’s proprietary technology for converting hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) into hydrogen (H₂) with minimal CO₂ emissions.
As Director of the MIT Energy Initiative, Dr. Green oversees groundbreaking research aimed at advancing sustainable energy technologies. He has published over 300 peer-reviewed articles, which have been cited more than 14,000 times, and has received numerous prestigious awards, including the AIChE Wilhelm Award in Reaction Engineering. His blend of deep technical expertise and industry leadership makes him a key driver in the clean energy transition.
Dr. Green received his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley, and his B.A. in Chemistry with Highest Honors from Swarthmore College. He also conducted postdoctoral research at Cambridge University and the University of Pennsylvania before joining the faculty at MIT, where he has been since 1997.
